Hi Peace Makers, or should I say Peace Within Makers! I am excited to bring you this week’s blog post. We are discussing boosting our self-esteem through self-care and conflict resolution through positive self talk. I pray that you will find hope and encouragement through today’s reading and as always, I am praying that God gifts you with all the happiness that your heart can hold.

If this is your first time on my site, My name is Melissa Rivers and I am a Creative Peace Designer. That means I use my gifts of creative writing and mentoring to help others manage conflict, realize their hidden potential and create mental space for more peaceful engagements in their lives. My motto for this week is “my peace is constantly unfolding.”

If you haven’t read my last post entitled, A Place To Breathe, click here to get encouraged about pursuing those peculiar hobbies that bring you joy!

So let’s get into it!

What’s My Intention for this post – My intention is to provide tips for boosting your self-esteem through self-care and conflict resolution through positive self talk. Sometimes we can get so busy in life that we forget to slow down and breathe. It’s so easy for anxiety and overwhelm to creep in because we are doing all the things that we normally do, not realizing that we are operating out of stress. Unfortunately by the time most of us realizes that we are stressed out, we are in the midst of a huge meltdown. Through self-care and positive self talk, I regained control over my emotions and turned around, what could have become an unproductive weekend.

What’s Important for you to know -I declared this past Saturday as Melissa’s Self-Care Saturday. I’ve been extremely busying doing all the things that a responsible, grown woman does. If you fall into that category, you know doing all the things can lead to all the stress. As stress occupied my shoulders and mind, I wanted to completely check out and do nothing. Unfortunately with deadlines looming, I had to get creative in my quest to find peace. I grabbed 4 things; my essential oil diffuser, my Doterra Peppermint Essential Oil, my Bentonite Clay and my facial steamer. I created a Peppermint infused spa retreat in my bathroom. I filled my diffuser with water and added a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil. After turning it on, I plugged in my facial steamer. I allowed the two steams to co-mingle and fill the room with a sense of calmness. After a few minutes of deep breathing and repeating positive self-affirmations, I felt the tension rushing away from my shoulders.

What Matters – Incorporating self-care into your daily routine is important for overall good health. You matter, your physical health matters and your mental health is just as important, if not more. Maybe you’re like me and have an extremely hectic schedule, if that’s the case, grab the items that I listed above and incorporate them into your weekly routine. If you need Doterra Essential Oils, I can help.  Click here and complete the form. I will get in touch with you to place an order. I’ve included links below, to purchase the other items. If you are unfamiliar with the detoxifying  benefits of Bentonite Clay, click here to read an article featured in Mother Nature Living Magazine to learn more. The facial steamer is an important element for dramatic effect. I only use the steamer to fill my room with steam. I know a lot of experts say that steam is great for your face but I tend to break out if I overuse it. One last thing, positive self-talk. You have to speak kindly to yourself in order to maintain peace and calmness. I don’t care how mad you may get or how big of a mistake you may make. Grant yourself some grace and be kind. Remember, your heart is listening and unpleasant words have a way of making a huge imprint. Refer back to my post entitled This Is What Happened, to get a list of affirmations that you can begin incorporating into your routine.

Creating Peace Maps to help individuals discover their fundamental necessities of peace, is what I do. If you would like to work with me, click the button below to schedule a 30 Minute Discovery Call.  Schedule Appointment

Be A Living Demonstration

Starting the New Year with renewed perspective. “It’s not always about what you do. Oftentimes it’s about how you do it.” Here’s to a year of saying yes to yourself and no to what you simply don’t want to do.🎉

” We carry the message in many small, subtle, but powerful ways. We do our own-recovery work and become a living demonstration of hope, self-love, comfort and health. These quiet behaviors can be a powerful message.” – The Language of Letting Go (Melody Beattie)

The best way to make an impact on others is to be a living demonstration of the message you want to communicate.

Many talk about self-love in public but fail to demonstrate it in their private lives.

A thorough self-love routine can include pampering and relaxation but more importantly it should involve setting boundaries, making time for self and doing things that promote positive mental and physical health.

Setting boundaries is how we demonstration our love of self to others. If we’re constantly saying yes, over-extending ourselves and repeatedly putting the needs of others ahead of our own, we’ve failed to establish necessary boundaries in our lives. The problem with always being available and always saying yes is that you eliminate time to be still and self-evaluate. If you’re constantly chasing everyone else’s needs you could miss those internal signals that alert you when things are going wrong internally.

The best way to set personal boundaries is to ask yourself a few questions?

  1. How can I peacefully co-exist with myself?
  2. How can I balance my desire to help others with my obligation to care for myself?
  3. How can I make the most impact in the shortest amount of time?

Answering these questions will help you create an action plan to lead a more balanced life.

Prayer: Today I am thankful for a balanced life. I am thankful for opportunities to serve others and myself. I acknowledge quiet moments of reflection and I value the self-love and empowerment contained in those moments. Thank you for opportunities to release co-dependency and to embrace self-love. By doing this I will be of greater service to myself and others.

Much Love,

Melissa

Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself

My name is Melissa Rivers and I am a Peace Coach. My mission is to help entrepreneurs and individuals manage conflict, make brave choices and take action to achieve their goals. I’ve been in business for myself for nearly four years and I’ve successfully helped dozens of clients achieve their own personal measure of success.

Like many others, I’ve made some pretty lofty goals for 2019. The most important one for me is to do more of what I love.

I think after my divorce, cancer, job loss and a handful of other setbacks, my focus shifted from hope and expectation to survival. Survival is necessary but there has to be a healthy balance between obligation and enjoyment.

My obligation for 2019 is to show up for myself and to do the work for my clients. Enjoyment for me comes in the form of writing & blogging. There’s definitely more of that coming this year.

So, I will end this year with a declaration: I make room for intentional enjoyment in my life!

Here’s to a year filled with bold, confident and powerful prayers. Intentional declarations of progress, growth and opportunity. Resources to be a blessing to others and invitations that will set you in the presence of Kings and Queens. May your focus be consistent and intentional, may your actions be deliberate and kind, may your opportunities be often and abundant. May you find peace in all you search for and may you empower the good in yourself, others and life. Release anything that no longer serves you, add all things that give you positive vibes and love!

Much Love,

Melissa

3 Month Check-In

Hi Peace Seekers!

We are exactly three months into the new year and it’s time for a quick check-in to see how you’re doing on your goals and if it’s time for some re-adjustments.

I pray that things are going well for you and that Peace is still your top priority.

At the top of the year I set some pretty lofty goals for myself. I am on a mission to achieve Peace in several areas of my life. My strategy plan includes goals for my health, my career, my spirituality and my relationships.

I am happy to report that I am making strides in all areas. So far I’m down 12 lbs. I’m gaining clients in my business, my prayer life is terrific and best of all, I’m getting gold stars for being the “coolest ex ever!” I’m happy to report that I’ve let go of some grudges and sprinkled some forgiveness on a few situations!self-belief

So how’s it going for you. Are you making strides and working toward your goals or are you at a stand still.

If you’re stuck, let me help you get back on track. If you’re really ready to start crushing goals peacefully, contact me today.

762

Before we get too much further into the New Year, I have to take time to acknowledge the 2016 record-breaking violence in the city of Chicago. 762 represents the number of shootings that occurred in that city last year. More surprisingly than that, 61 of those shootings occurred on Christmas Day.

There have been many attempts to curb the violence but as of yet, nothing has worked.

I chose to make this post to offer my condolences to all the family members, friends and to the community of those who were lost or wounded. 762 is a large number. I’m sure my words give you little comfort but please know that my heart aches with you and my mind works overtime thinking of solutions that could possibly make a difference.

To the City’s West Side: I am sorry you do not see hope in your situation. I am sorry that options are scare. I am sorry that you feel unheard. I am sorry that you feel defeated. I am sorry that your lives aren’t valued. I am sorry that gangs have overtaken your community. I am sorry that the lives of infants and children aren’t cherished. I am sorry for all the lives that have been lost or forever changed by senseless violence.  I pray for hope in your situation. I pray for more options for you to choose from. I pray that you use your voice to speak your truth. I pray that you realize your value. I pray for victory in your lives. I pray that you know you are worthy. I pray that gang violence is eliminated. I pray for the lives of your children and their families. I pray that your community is revitalized.

Praying for Peace,

Melissa

And So It Begins…

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope that your holiday season was filled with love, light and peace! I appreciate you hanging out here with me on the blog in 2016 and I am hopeful that 2017 will bring awesomeness for everyone!

My focus for 2017 is to have a more Interactive blog. I would love to receive your thoughts, comments and questions on the content that is posted each week. For that reason you will see more of a variety going forward. The topics will still focus on peace building and conflict resolution but instead of taking the informational approach, I would love to hear your thoughts on various issues that are important in community.

There’s no better time than now to be involved in problem solving and peace building in our own communities. Our family, friends and even ourselves are going through so many different issues that collaboration is necessary if we expect to overcome.

Each week you can expect motivational quotes, a focal word of Peace and a blog post from me. Hopefully in return I will receive your thoughts and comments on the topics.

Who knows…we may even come up with the perfect solution to someone’s pressing issue.

Okay, so this week’s Peace Word is: Integrity. How do you feel about it? Do you think it’s been lost in today’s society? Do people still value integrity?

I personally feel that a person without integrity is out here lost. Without morals, standards and principles we’re being solely guided by feelings and we all know that feelings are full of unexpected surprises!

integrity

Melissa

The Big Reveal

So here’s a snapshot of my 2017 Vision Station. The upper board is used to illustrate the goals that I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. I prefer words overs pictures so that I am free to imagine myself completing the goal as I see fit. Pictures tend to stifle my creativity and don’t exactly give me the motivation that I need.

20161231_204005

The lower board is my interactive space. This is where I post my objectives, resource list, action plan, focus word and theme song. I also have a folder to capture ideas and notes. In the past I created separate boards for my business and personal goals but my Career Confidence Coach, Kandis Webb helped me to realize that the two should be conjoined. As an entrepreneur, I am the face and brand of my business. It’s only right that I incorporate those terrific, quirky and unique qualities about myself into my business model.

Same goes for you.

So what’s the point of a ‘theme song?” It’s a proven fact that music stimulates the create thinking process. While you’re being magnificent and churning out new ideas, you need a song that resonates with you. I chose 2 for 2017. The song Unfamiliar by Common is awesome. I absolutely love this song. It reminds me to be open and receptive to the unfamiliar because great opportunities, relationships and partnerships often show up when you least expect it. My 2nd song is Location by Khalid. I love, love, love it! That one line when he says, “What’s the Move and I Got You,” reminds me to be spontaneous and open to new adventures.

I chose to tackle my fitness goals first. I was ready and there was no point in putting it off. I began training with @sakinareneefit on December 20th. In two weeks I’ve dropped a pant size and gained lots of energy!

Wanna know what goal I may struggle with a little?

To get to a state of cool may take me awhile but I’m working on it!  ( don’t judge me)

Now the only thing left for you to do is decide that you’re ready to gain focus, clarity and most of all Peace in manifesting your 2017 goals.

Positioned for Peace: Your Action Plan For A Peaceful Lifestyle in 2017 is available throughout the month of January for your employees, community group, ministry, social club or group of friends. The workshop includes a PowerPoint, worksheets and team building exercises. You provide the location and I’ll provide the expertise.

Enough Already 2016!

For some 2016 has been a very rewarding year while others, including myself have experienced a whooping number of challenges and lessons. Social media outlets have been bombarded with hashtags such as #sitdown2016, #is2016overyet and #bye2016, all in the spirit of moving on and moving forward from an exhausting year of unexpected tragedy.

Right now the media is heavily focused on the deaths of many of our favorite entertainers. These back to back tragedies have left a cloud of gloom hovering over much of our nation.

The senseless murders of unarmed black people at the hands of police officers has the black community on edge and searching for God’s hand of justice in at least one of these  cases.

And countless numbers of individuals are unemployed, homeless and in need of healthcare.

oh and let’s not forget the resurrection of racism in mainstream America

It’s a lot to deal with…but that’s what we do best.

We deal with the unexpected. Isn’t that what life’s about? Since no one ever really knows when tragedy or misfortune is going to strike, it’s kind of a hit or miss situation right? If many of us had the opportunity to stay home or face uncertainty a lot of people would just stay home. After all, we’re doing the best that we can with the resources and opportunities that we have.

So 2017 is right around the corner and I’m certain that it will hold its fair share of unexpected events. Start preparing now by understanding exactly where you are mentally and emotionally with all that has happened in this year and use those feelings and experiences to make a difference in the year to come.

Here are 4 quick and easy things that you can do to reset, refocus and get ready for the New Year:

  1. Summarize your 2016 in one word. My word for 2016 is endurance. No matter what event interrupted my peace or tried to steal my joy, I endured.
  2. Decide what kind of year you’ll have in 2017. 2017 is my year of Strength. No more enduring what’s handed my way but having the strength to create new opportunities that reflect my vision for my life.
  3. Write specific goals to accomplish in 2017. Now’s the time. No more procrastination.
  4. Write positive affirmations for each of the following areas of your life. Spiritual, Relational, Financial and Occupational. Post them in a visible location so that you can repeat them daily

After you complete this simple exercise, stop thinking, go out and have some fun!

Life is meant to be lived so get used to it!faithful-chic-picture

Peace,

Melissa
