12 Week Transformation Course

A season of transformation is here!

Seasons change and people can to. I remember one of my most prominent transformation journeys occured during the Springtime. I was experiencing an extended time of sadness and frustration, stuck in what I thought was an admirable life but I could never shake the feelings of  inadequacy, unhappiness and consistent anxiety.

From personal experience, I can tell you that having faith the size of a mustard seed is all you need to pivot and then transform.  Tough things happen to some of the best peo

ple in the world and often they cannot find the motivation or strength to overcome those

 challenges.

I’m here to tell you that Transformation is possible with the right plan of action!

I want to help you realize the change that you need and to come face to face with the conflicts that are keeping you from showing up as your best self.

Heal…Recover…Grow is a 12 Week Transformation Program that will help you create a new mindset, create a new path forward and motivate you to take action for improvement. I personally invite you to take this guided journey with me.

You can expect a comprehensive program that will equip you with the tools you need to realize real change in your life.

If no one has told you, allow me to be the first, “You have creative freedom over your life and it’s time to write your next Chapter”.

Are you ready?

Let’s go!

Everyday I’m Hustlin’

“Black Women live, create and build with the future in mind, because the present has no place for us. In order to stay alive, we have to imagine ourselves in a future where we not only survive but thrive. A place where we are understood. A place where we still exist. This is a tall order in the world but this is the way we make the present work for us, every day, and it’s the reason I’m most proud of us.” -Shayla Lawson

I have read this quote so many times over the past week and each time is more triggering than the time before . Whether you agree with the quote or not, it is nearly unbearable to know, understand and feel the perspective that is voiced here.

I believe this quote is a great place to start in order to take a deeper look into the “State of Black Women”, more specifically how we cope with life’s daily requirements, how we celebrate our wins and how we respond to the heartbreak of those tough lessons  that we have no other choice but to learn.

It has long been said, “black women are so strong”. I would argue the point that many of us are strong because we have to be strong, not because we necessarily want to be. In a world where  we are constantly working to make the world a safer place for everyone else but ourselves, we  nuture, we advocate, we protest and we support our fair share of people and causes. We do all the things necessary to help others survive. Consequently, we are too overwhelmed and burdened to do the same things for ourselves.

Let’s talk about it.

What are your thoughts about this quote? Do you agree or disagree with this point of view?

I belive many Black Women find their validation in the work they do to help others and in their efforts to solution the world’s problems. Rarely does the message of simply being enough and contributing as our authentic self come into the conversation. Constantly living, creating and building with the future in mind is a huge endeavor to tackle, but that’s how we, Black Women make it. We are forward thinkers. It’s also why we have such a huge problem sticking to a self-care routine. We’re expected to always be ON….on point, on target, on top things….it’s alot!

My vision for Black Women is a world where we are respected for who we are, appreciated for our contributions but also given equal opportunites to rest, to rejuvenate and to love.

One of the core principles of Originis of Peace is “Self-Preservation”. We empower women with the skills and know-how to set boundaries, manage overwhelm and gain clarity around their goals and objectives.  Self-Preservation is defined as the act of keeping oneself from destruction or harm, a natural or instintive tendency to act as to preserve one’s own existence.

In a few weeks I’m kicking off my 12 week  course entitled; Heal..Recover..Grow to help you GROW through what you GO through.

We will focus on 3 Essential Concepts:

  • Heal – Be the heroine of your life, not the victim
  • Recover – Own your story; stop running from it
  • Grow – Be open to all experiences, understanding that both happiness and sadness have their respective places

All Sessions are virtual. Additional information will be shared later this week.

Peace.

Happy Women’s History Month!

Today kicks off Women’s History Month and this time around, at Origins of Peace we’re putting our own spin on things. Normally we would highlight the achievements of innovative women who’ve contributed their brillance to advance society. Of course we acknowledge and honor these courageous woman and their significant advancements, but this year we’re taking a different approach.

During Women’s History Month 2021, we’re challenging ourselves and all women to reclaim their feminity through self-preservation!

It’s time to feel again, to have again and to make time again, to be intentional again!          What am I talking about?

It’s time to…… Feel free, feel loved, feel creative, feel beautiful, feel brilliant, have energy, have time, have conversations, have a waistline, make time to date, make time to laugh, make time to love, make time to exercise, make time to shop, make time to read, make time to cuddle, make time to meditate, make time to chill, make time to dress up,  be intentional by wearing colors, slow down to appreciate our curves, take a second to nurture our edges, set goals to drink enough water, make time to just be a woman…………

Of course we recognize there are so many more layers to who you are as a woman but for the next 30 days let’s do some of the things we’ve been neglecting.

I’m kicking off the month by sharing this awesome sermon by Sarah Jakes Roberts  entitled Girl, Get up! This is a good word so make time to listen

The Peace in Giving Back

When the Call to Action went out to support a sister in the midst of her journey with breast cancer, I felt compelled to respond. It’s not everyday that the opportunity arises to offer support on a personal basis.

Being a breast cancer survivor who’s currently in her 5th year of survival, I understand that everyday choices are a huge part of the recovery process. I decided to gift this beautiful sister with the Planter pictured above in hopes that it would help to boost her mood during these trying times and also add a little peace to her space.

I remember the fear and uncertainty that I felt during my journey, but I also remember the love and acts of kindness that were shown to me during that time. I remember the visits, phone calls and texts. I remember the Banana Pudding Cake from my Sister in Law Lanita and I remember the beautiful Orchid from my Nephew Nicholas.

My hope is that my simple act of kindness will also be remembered as a simple act of love.💖

To this Sister I pray for Peace and Total Healing. ✨

Day 18: Psalm 46:1

Good Morning!

Today’s challenge to keeping your peace in the midst of this pandemic is a simple reminder that I am holding close to my heart. Psalm 46:1

IMG-1885

I can confidently say that God has shown up to 100% of the battles that I’ve faced in my life. His safety and power never run dry. His grace and mercy follow me each day.

Today I challenge you to believe with all your heart that God knows your name and that he is searching throughout the earth for people that aren’t afraid to profess his goodness. It’s a good time to remember every battle you’ve won and every blessing that you’ve received. That’s God.

Day 9: Protect Yourself On Your Own Terms

When I first saw this Visor in my Swag Bag from #werkprayslay, I had no idea when I would ever have use for it. I’m not big into the latest trends anymore so I figured it would become another accessory on my closest shelf. Little did I know #coronavirus was on the way and this handy dandy visor is just what I need to feel comfortable. I know we’re all in this together and helping one another through this challenging time, but in all honesty we’re each having individual experiences as we go through this. Being a cancer survivor, I don’t want the additional risk associated with not taking extra precautions, and as #tabithabrown would say…that’s my business.
So today I challenge you to wear whatever personal protection equipment you feel necessary to protect your peace and manage your anxiety while doing your very best to reduce the possible risk of exposure.
This thing is new to all of us and unfortunately this is not practice, it’s on the job training. I see post on #socialmedia of people being shamed for wearing masks, helmets, plastic bags, etc…and I don’t find it amusing.
Do you!
Peace.

Temporarily Closed for In-Person Visits

Hey Origins of Peace Family,

I pray that everyone is well. It’s been a while since my last check-in, so I wanted to stop in and make sure you’re good. This memo is to inform you that we are officially operating in an online capacity only. With all that is going on with COVID-19, it’s important that we mitigate the risk of exposure and move to online engagement.

Effective immediately, I’ve moved to a strictly online operation. For my personal development clients that I meet with several times a month to work on action plans and develop strategies for various life goals. I am now taking those calls using Zoom and other resources that are available.

For my professional development clients who are starting new businesses, working on their Resume’s and acquiring new skills for a new career. Our meetings are also taking place online utilizing Microsoft Teams to collaborate on ideas and develop Roadmaps to Success.

By changing my method of operation, I am able to assist while being safe. Right now, the safest place for any of us is Home. I ask that you do your part as much as possible to keep yourself and those you love protected. With that being said, I am still accepting new clients. If you have the desire to get started on a new personal or professional journey, let’s create your Peace Map!

Much Love,

Melissa

Connectedness

One of my top 5 Strengths from Strengths Finder is Connectedness. This means I am certain that things happen for a reason.

It all started in April when @Shermikathelight posted on Instagram about an event that she would be speaking at in October. From that point forward I knew I had to be in attendance. Shermika and I were classmates in Grad. School. We both had aspirations of starting our own businesses after graduation. I watched on social media as Shermika started her company, going door to door marketing her business. I also had a social media front row seat when things took off for her. I watched in amazement as she nurtured her business into a powerful brand. I knew that in order to successfully and intentionally grow my business on my terms, I needed to gain some knowledge and insight from her. I did just that!

Just over a week ago, I jumped on a flight to Atlanta and I attended #werkprayslay. It was absolutely everything that I’ve never imagined. I mean never, ever. This Women’s Empowerment Conference was one for the books. The colors, the lighting, the details, the information, the vendors, the volunteers, the attendees, the speakers, the hostess, the D.J. and the fabulous visionary @Koereyelle made this a life changing event for me. Before I attended, I had no idea that this beautiful community of women business owners existed.

I have a solid plan for my business now. No more taking bits and pieces of information and trying to figure out how it all ties together. Some of the strategies discussed were, how to land Corporate and Government Contracts, how to Slay Procrastination, how to Change Your Mindset and Secure the Bag, how to Be Your Own Publicist, how to use Video to Slay Your Personal Brand, and so much more! I’m telling you, this ain’t even half of it.

As I said in my previous post, I had a chance to thank @ChefAhki for positively impacting my life after a cancer diagnosis. You can find that post by clicking here.

I can safely bet that I was one of the older women at the conference, but I didn’t feel left out. @Koereyelle and her team did a phenomenal job of making it a safe space to learn and be vulnerable. I even swagged and surfed for the first time ever! (that wasn’t a thing when I attended an HBCU)

Why am I telling you all of this??? Because it matters who you are connected to. My connection with @Shermikiathelight through social media exposed me to a whole new world of confident, brilliant and paid Sistas who are out here doing their thang! It matters who you follow and who you’re connected to.

If you are a female business owner, I highly recommend the @WerkPraySlay Conference. I’m sure planning has already begun for 2020. You definitely don’t want to miss it. I know that I won’t miss it!

One of the top traits of a person with Connectedness as a Strength is having confidence in their gifts, but knowing they do not have all the answers. As a reward for my humility, God made room for me in a place that I didn’t even know existed, and it is a place of overflowing resources!🤲🏾

I won a free Website Copy Audit by Word Stylitz to amplify the impact that I have on my ideal client. April Beverley of @baabwriting will definitely get me all the way together.🙌🏾This brilliant lady is out here commanding coins with the power of her words.

If you are a female business owner looking to connect with a like-minded Sista on the move, email me. I would love to join forces and hold one another accountable to do the #werk!
